How digital technology can support evidence based teaching and research in kindergartens

One of the advantages of smart education is to make full use of Internet thinking and advanced technology to optimize and transform the traditional teaching and research model. In order to effectively promote the development and implementation of regional evidence-based teaching and research, we have established a "Cloud Smart Play" learning and teaching space station by using the regional preschool "three clouds" smart service system. The "Cloud Smart Play" learning and teaching space station is an evidence-based teaching and research platform based on Internet and Internet of Things technology, which includes digital training resource space, smart teaching and research space, and AI assistant scientific research space. Through data collection, research and judgment, the professional development portrait of teachers and the portrait of children's growth are formed, and the digital teaching and research resources are enriched. At the same time, in this learning and teaching space station, kindergarten teachers in the region can communicate and cooperate with preschool education experts and famous teachers, etc., without time and space restrictions, to ensure the quality of evidence-based teaching and research.

Through two years of practice, we have constructed a new evidence-based teaching and research model of "portrait consultation-evidence-based attribution-strategy support-reconstruction practice" based on the scenario application of the "Yunhui Play" learning and teaching space station. Under the guidance of the concept of evidence-based education, the theme review of the kindergarten curriculum avoids the drawbacks of arbitrariness, emptiness and empiricality.

Taking the early review of the theme of the middle class of Wenzhou No. 12 Kindergarten (hereinafter referred to as the "Twelfth Kindergarten") "I exercise, I am healthy" as an example, as the "Three Clouds" wisdom park, the park made good use of the advantages of the "Cloud Wisdom Play" learning and teaching space station to carry out the preliminary review and teaching and research activities.

Portrait consultation to find out the problem points.

Evidence-based teaching and research emphasizes taking practical problems as the starting point and clarifying research objectives and problems. In the early stage of the theme review, the teaching and research group uses the children's behavior performance evaluation module in the "Yunhui Play" learning and teaching space station to collect various performance information of children in games, life and learning through surveys, interviews, observations, etc., and record them in the form of voice and text, and with the help of AI recognition and analysis, form a digital portrait of children in different states, causing teachers to dig deep into the hidden value behind the data, so as to find more real and accurate problems.

The children's behavior performance development indicators in the "Yunhui Play" learning and education space station are formulated according to the sub-field goals of the "Learning and Development Guide for Children Aged 3-6". For example, the health field includes 10 sub-domains, such as good posture, good posture, and environmental adaptability, and each sub-field has second-level indicator development goals suitable for primary, middle, and large classes. The teachers of the 12th kindergarten learned from the digital portrait radar chart formed by the development of the children in the middle (1) class that the development level of the children in the language field, art field and science field is comparable to that of children of the same age, but the development of health field and social field is weak. The teacher also learned from the digital portrait histogram formed by the children's performance behaviors in the health field and social field in the middle (1) class that the overall development level of the class was normal in terms of the children's living habits and abilities in the health field, physical and mental conditions, and the data showed that only 40% of the children reached the middle class level, while 36% of the children were still at the small class level.

Through discussion, the teachers agreed that it is worth mentioning that the children's interest in sports in Secondary (1) is lower than that of children of the same age. Through the analysis and interpretation of digital portraits, teachers found problems worthy of research, and also realized the importance of extensive collection and summary of children's experiences, interests and needs in the early stage.

Evidence-based attribution paves the way for problem-solving.

With the help of literature search, AI assistant, expert guidance and peer reference, the teaching and research group screens out the materials related to teaching and research problems in the obtained evidence group, and sorts out and refines the theoretical evidence and case evidence to solve real problems. The collection of theoretical evidence was mainly completed by the teaching and research group through keyword searches for "middle class children's health" and "sports interest", and finally found 22 academic articles, which were then classified and sorted. Then use the AI assistant to find the theoretical basis for "low interest in sports in middle class children": developmental psychology theory points out that it may be because children have not fully developed their cognition and skills in sports; Self-determination theory suggests that the relationship between an individual's internal motivation and its external environment will have an important impact on children's interest in sports, and sociocultural factors may also have an impact on children's interest in sports.

For the collection of case evidence, the teaching and research group will focus on teaching and research problems and explore the causes of problems through teaching and research activities planning evaluation sheets and on-site teaching and research feedback forms. In the teaching and research, the 12 kindergarten team combined the problem of "36% of children have low interest in sports", taking children every day as an example, through home visits, daily observation and other strategies, it was found that there are two factors for low interest in sports every day. One is the psychological factor, every time she jumps down from a high place, she will say "afraid", and only with the help and encouragement of the teacher will she dare to jump down. The members of the teaching and research group believe that the timidity of the unknown is one of the factors that contribute to their low interest in sports. The second is physical factors, the data of the cloud care platform of "Three Clouds" shows that Tiantian is moderately obese and usually does not like to exercise at home, resulting in a fat body, which not only affects her movement development, but also causes her to be not interested in sports.

According to the analysis of the causes of the problem, we sorted out six factors that affect children's interest in sports, such as physical environment, motor skills, peers, and family education. The teaching and research team will send these case evidence to the garden-based resource library of the "Yunhui Play" learning and teaching space station, which will pave the way for the subsequent evidence screening and sorting in the teaching and research process. This makes process evidence more important, and it also makes teaching and research evidence-based and justifiable.

Strategic support and optimization of theme activities.

The main task of the preliminary review of the theme is to determine the objectives and sub-themes (experience modules) of the theme, preset various activities, and clarify the implementation path of the theme and the time node of the organization of the activities. Through the portrait of children and multiple evidence, the teaching and research group studies children, research objectives and research content in evidence-based thinking and dialogue, so as to achieve an understanding of the whole theme, and preset a relatively complete theme planner to fully prepare for the implementation of the theme.

Based on the children's digital portraits, the teaching and research team interprets the children from the observation to the formation of experience, to the objective judgment of reference data, and then to the in-depth interpretation of evidence-based attribution, so that the study of children is more three-dimensional and comprehensive. In terms of the formulation of the theme goal, according to the problem of "36% of children have low interest in sports", the teacher fine-tuned the original theme goal and added "feel the fun of sports, sprout the willingness to exercise, insist on exercising, voluntarily participate in sports, and establish good exercise habits". In terms of content setting, in view of the fact that 23% of the children's endurance and strength in the class are still at the level of the small class, healthy exercises are carried out in the first week of generation activities to "play with the body", and in the second to third weeks, situational experiential, interesting and cooperative sports game activities are added, such as "Little White Rabbit Drilling Cave" and "Little Hedgehog Transporting Fruits". In the implementation path of the theme, we should pay attention to home co-education and carry out dynamic parent-child activities; Situational game activities are added to daily physical exercise and outdoor game activities to divide the difficulty of sports games in more detail.

Reconstruct practices to evaluate and revise educational behaviors.

Evidence-based teaching and research is a kind of reflective practice, and teaching and research under "evidence-based" is no longer a general expression of experience, but relies on data for accurate judgment and analysis. In this process, teachers constantly monitor, evaluate and revise their own educational behaviors, give appropriate support to children's behavior development, and promote children's individualized development.

For example, in response to the discovery that "motor skills affect children's interest in sports", the teacher of this class co-created the sports game "Exploration Hole" with children to support children to develop motor skills of walking, running, drilling and climbing in the game. In response to the finding that "family education affects children's interest in sports", combined with festival activities, parent-child activities, etc., parents who love sports in the class are invited to carry out parent-child sports meetings with their children, and the home cooperates to create a sports atmosphere.

Through a period of follow-up observation, the teachers found that the game made the children more independent and stimulated the children's desire to explore and try, which eliminated the impact of poor motor skills development on the children to a certain extent. Taking children Tiantian as an example, through a semester of follow-up observation and evidence-based support, teachers found that Tiantian began to like sports. When she saw some difficult sports, she would not give up directly, but dared to try them with the encouragement of the teacher. At the same time, according to Tiantian's physical characteristics, the health care doctor customized special meals for her, and corrected them synchronously with her parents, and Tiantian also changed from moderate obesity to mild obesity.

In the whole process of teaching and research, teachers analyze the collected data, find problems, find evidence, analyze problems, and propose strategies to solve problems, and form an evidence-based path of "listening and observing, discovering and understanding, evaluating and supporting" and "discovering differences, respecting individuals, teaching according to their aptitude" in the process of continuous reflection, practice, re-reflection and re-practice, which improves the quality of theme deliberation.
