Salt spray test 10 levels

Mondo games Updated on 2024-02-28

The salt spray test is a test method used to evaluate the corrosion resistance of metals and other materials. Based on the test results, salt spray corrosion levels can be divided into 10 grades. Here are the descriptions and features of each level:

Grade 1: Virtually no corrosion. There is almost no change in the surface and no corrosion products are formed.

Grade 2: Minor corrosion. There are slight traces of corrosion on the surface, but there is no noticeable change overall.

Grade 3: Moderate corrosion. There are obvious traces of corrosion on the surface, and there are a small number of corrosion products.

Grade 4: Heavy corrosion. There are deep corrosion pits on the surface, and there are more corrosion products.

Grade 5: Severe corrosion. Deep corrosion pits appear on the surface, with a large number of corrosion products, which may be accompanied by the phenomenon of bare substrate.

Grade 6: Very severe corrosion. There are a large number of corrosion pits on the surface, and the substrate is severely exposed, which may be accompanied by obvious deformation.

Grade 7: Extremely corrosive. The surface is almost entirely covered with corrosion products, the substrate is exposed, and almost all metals are strongly corroded.

Grade 8: Irreparable corrosion. The surface is severely damaged, the substrate is badly exposed, and the corrosion products accumulate in large quantities and cannot be repaired.

Level 9: Complete destruction. The surface is completely covered with corrosion products, the substrate is badly exposed, and the material completely loses its structure and function.

Level 10: Unassessable. The surface condition is extremely complex and does not allow for an effective corrosion assessment.

The evaluation of the salt spray test grade is carried out on the basis of the test results and the relevant standards. In practice, different salt spray test levels can be selected for evaluation according to specific needs to understand the corrosion resistance and longevity of the material. At the same time, it is also possible to improve the corrosion resistance of the material and prolong its service life by taking appropriate anti-corrosion measures.
