M-PEG4-DBCO is composed of three parts: M-PEG4, DBCO, and linker. M-PEG4 refers to a methoxy polyethylene glycol fragment, which is hydrophilic and biocompatible, and is able to enhance the water solubility of the compound. DBCO, on the other hand, stands for dibenzocyclooctyne, which is a commonly used cycloalkyne hydrocarbon that can be linked to the azide group in the absence of copper. The linker group is the bridge that connects M-PEG4 and DBCO.
In the case of M-PEG4-DBCO, solid-phase synthesis or liquid-phase synthesis is usually used.
