Urban renewal is the inevitable development of the city, and Guangzhou is steadily promoting the renewal and transformation of the old city.
In the context of the old city of Guangzhou, which has accumulated more than 2,000 years of history and culture, PHA Paiang presents the renovation proposal of Luobian Village Style Commercial Street in Panyu District with the advantage of leading technology. The design follows the culture of Guangfu, showing the beauty of the fusion of the old and the new, and turning the century-old historic district into a micro-vacation destination.

Planning
With a history of more than 800 years, this district is close to high-quality historical building resources, surrounded by urban villages, industrial parks, residential buildings and universities, and lacks comprehensive commerce. The Yuyin Mountain House across the road was built in the sixth year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty, which is not only one of the four famous gardens in Guangdong, but also a national key cultural relics protection unit.
In this regard, from the perspective of overall planning, PHA Paiang combined with the ancient building of Yuyin Mountain House for planning convergence. On the premise of protecting ancient trees and ancient buildings to the greatest extent and activating local culturePlace the "vein" to create an urban roaming systemand along the "context" design nodes, planning lines, and inserting content, gradually activate urban villages from points to areas, give full play to economic value, and enhance the tourism and cultural value of the area. The design proposal has received many positive reviews.

Field
In the roaming trail, in order to eliminate the poor building volume caused by the height limit of the project, the design arranges a number of characteristic squares along the "vein" to create a rich courtyard space. The modern museum designed in the southeast corner of the project is combined with the art square to form a cultural gathering point and enhance the influence of cultural radiation.

The combination of the old and the new, the blend of ancient and modern. The architectural appearance interspersed and combined in this way gives people a relaxed and comfortable human scale, and alleviates the sense of oppression and uneasiness given by the streets of the original urban village. At the same time, it will attract investment with business planning according to local conditions, activate business districts, and revitalize historical districts.

Construction
Weakening the sense of disobedience brought by the old and new buildings is the highlight of the problem solving. The design proposes to treat the building as:Juxtapose, combine, reshapeIn three ways, the integrity of the original building is preserved, and the old and new buildings are infiltrated by each other. Among them, the juxtaposition gives the whole block a sense of regularity and order. In terms of the strategy of combining traditional houses and modern buildings, the design connects the new and old buildings as a transition between different architectural styles, and connects with Yuyin Mountain House, which is the beauty of the fusion of the old and the new, as well as the beauty of historical dialogue.

It is worth mentioning that for the first time, PHA creatively proposed to put traditional residential elements on top of new modern buildings, create characteristic upper urban space, and form rich streets, alleys and courtyard spaces, so as to optimize the problem that independent buildings are not friendly to upper commercial space, and provide a new idea for traditional reconstruction.
Preservation and reinvention of restoration.
Considering the structural loads, cost and ease of construction are often top priorities for owners. Therefore, the building often uses square volumes, while retaining part of the traditional architectural texture, the blank exterior wall provides the business with space for secondary design, creating the beauty of façade diversity.
This proposal is another example of the purpose of realizing commercial activation, which not only echoes the texture of ancient buildings, but also creates a cultural and tourism business card integrating humanities, leisure and socialization with cultural people, and synchronizes and develops with urban renewal.
