Gas corrosion refers to the corrosion that occurs when the metal only reacts with a gas corrosive agent in the absence of any liquid phase on the metal surface. The main factors affecting gas corrosion are temperature and humidity, atmospheric corrosive components, etc. The severity of the test depends on the type of corrosive gas and the duration of exposure. It can simulate various corrosive gases such as NO2, SO2, CO2, H2S, Cl2 and so on in the atmosphere, and can carry out single or multiple mixed gas corrosion tests to accelerate the corrosion of materials or products in a certain temperature and relative humidity environment, and reproduce the degree of damage suffered by materials or products within a certain time range.
Sulfur dioxide is one of the main pollutants in the atmosphere, and the SO2 environment can cause chemical corrosion, metal corrosion, pitting and other problems in industrial products and materials and surface coatings. Sulfur dioxide corrosion test is an accelerated corrosion test method used to evaluate the corrosion resistance of protective-decorative coatings to SO2 gas.
Test Standards
1、 gb/t 2423.33-2021 High Concentration Sulfur Dioxide Corrosion Test
This standard specifies the test method for the KCA high concentration sulfur dioxide test for environmental tests for electrical and electronic products. This standard is applicable to determining the suitability of electrical and electronic products and the materials they use for use in chemically corrosive environmental conditions.
2. DIN 50018 sulfur dioxide test in saturated environment
This standard specifies the general conditions under which the specimen is subjected to action in an alternating climate of condensate containing sulphur dioxide so that comparable test results can be obtained when tests are carried out in different laboratories. The tests specified in this standard can quickly detect defects in the anti-corrosion system. The test carried out in the test climate specified in this standard is not possible for the test piece under actual use conditions.
3. GB 9789-2008 sulfur dioxide corrosion test under normal condensation state
This standard specifies test methods for the corrosion resistance of materials or products under conditions of sulfur dioxide containing SO2 atmospheres and condensation. It is suitable for corrosion tests of metal and non-metallic coatings, but not for corrosion tests of coatings and varnishes.
