7.25 The Son teaches four things: literacy, conduct, loyalty, and faithfulness.

Confucius taught students four things: literature and classics, behavior and practice, faithfulness, and integrity.

Interpretation] Interpreting the classics, the fewer words, the more accurate the translation and reading, otherwise it is very likely to be misread, or even misread in the opposite direction.

There are three semantics of "wen" in the Analects: one refers to "literature and classics, ritual and music system"; the second refers to "artificial cultivation"; Three refers to "beauty, goodness, and goodness". In this chapter, "text" takes the first interpretation, that is, the system of literature and classics.

Whether "conduct" refers to "deeds" or "virtues" is a matter of considerable disagreement on these two points. I agree with Mr. Li Zehou's interpretation: "'Virtue' should already include 'loyalty' and 'faith', so why should we talk about it separately? Therefore, we do not take the translation of "virtue". The "action" in this chapter may be more similar to the "action" of "being quick to say and being sensitive to action", or the "practice" of "learning and learning", so it is translated as "behavior practice".

Faithful" is what Confucius himself said, "The Lord is faithful, and those who have no friends are not as good as themselves, and do not be afraid to change if they fail." (Learning, 1.)8) "Faithful".

If we talk separately, "loyalty" has both the meaning of "doing things with all our hearts" and "loyalty", and the taste for peers and superiors is heavier. (Chapter 319)

"Faith" means "integrity" and "faith in words". If you expand a little more, "Gongye Long Story" 5In 6, Confucius asked Qi Diao Kai to be an official, and Qi Diao Kai said, "Wu Si Zhi can't believe it." "Faith" here means "confidence, self-confidence", is it possible for Confucius to teach students self-confidence? This is really not true, at least "blind self-confidence" is something that Confucius opposed. Different from "loyalty", "faith" has a heavier taste for the level and the lower level, so Confucius said that "the people cannot stand without faith".

This chapter can be combined with the Narrative 76 Look together, "Ambition is in the way, according to virtue, according to benevolence, and in art." "It is for the educated, to indicate the learning objectives and learning methods; This chapter is aimed at educators, pointing out the educational methods and educational goals, that is, linking theory with practice and cultivating faithful talents.
