Before the outbreak of the Pingjin Campaign, Chen Changjie was originally serving as the commander of the Kuomintang's Eighth Supply Zone, but Fu Zuoyi knew that he could fight, so he transferred him to Tianjin and served as the commander of the Tianjin garrison. Chen Changjie was also very excited about Fu Zuoyi's promotion, and said impassionedly to Fu Zuoyi: "Please rest assured, Commander-in-Chief, with me Chen Changjie here, Tianjin can be guaranteed!" But Chen Changjie never expected that before his Tianjin city had even begun to fight, Fu Zuoyi was already preparing for an uprising in Beiping. In January 1949, the Battle of Tianjin broke out, and Liu Yalou led 340,000 troops to the city. At that time, Chen Changjie only had 150,000 horses, but he did not show the idea of escaping, but vowed to defend Tianjin to the death. However, Huang Wei saw it very clearly and said to him: "Fu Zuoyi is using you as a bargaining chip for him to talk in Beiping, only if you fight a tough battle, he will be tough when he speaks in Beiping!" Of course, Fu Zuoyi also felt sorry for Chen Changjie, and later pleaded for him many times, and Chen Changjie was finally pardoned by the first batch in 1959. After being released from prison, Fu Zuoyi also set up a banquet for Chen Changjie in Xidan Hongbin Building, but after Chen Changjie saw Fu Zuoyi, his face was full of indifference, and he also said sarcastically: "According to my temper in the past, I won't come today, but I have been reformed in prison for ten years, and I have lost my temper, not to mention that you are an official now, I am just a prisoner, and I dare not listen to the words of adults!" ”
Fu Zuoyi didn't get angry after hearing this, but said with a smile: "The relationship between the two of us for so many years, of course I know your temper, but today I also want to say something to you." Fu Zuoyi told all his hardships back then, as well as his guilt and self-blame for Chen Changjie, and Chen Changjie's eyes were watery when he heard it, and finally sighed and forgave Fu Zuoyi. After Chen Changjie was released from prison, he went to Shanghai to find his son, and the father and son were reunited and shared the joy of family. In Shanghai, Chen Changjie was assigned to work on a farm, in the era of "grain leading the way and vegetables in charge", managing the farm was a very honorable thing, Chen Changjie also lived up to high expectations, managed the farm in an orderly manner, and won the first name and praise. But unfortunately, in 1968, due to well-known reasons, Chen Changjie had no choice but to commit suicide at the age of 76.
