Maslow's hierarchy of needs believes that people have five basic needs, namely, physiological needs, security needs, needs for belonging and love, needs for respect, and needs for self-realization.
Physiological needs, which are the basic needs of human beings to maintain their own survival. Including food, clothing, housing and transportation needs. If these needs are not met, the survival of humanity becomes a problem. Maslow believed that only when these most basic needs were met to the extent necessary for survival could other needs become new motivators.
The need for security, which is the demand of human beings to ensure their own security, to be free from unemployment and loss. Property threatens the need to avoid the invasion of occupational diseases, relieves harsh supervision, etc. Maslow believed that the whole organism was a mechanism that pursued security. The receptors, effector organs, intelligence, and other energies of the person are primarily tools for seeking safety.
The need to belong and love. There are two main aspects to this level of need. The first is the need for belonging. That is, everyone has a feeling of belonging to a group and wants to be a member of the group. And care and care for each other. The second is the need for love, that is, everyone needs a harmonious relationship between partners and colleagues. Or maintain friendship and loyalty, where everyone wants love. Desire to love others, but also desire to receive love from others.
The need for respect, everyone wants to have a stable social status. It is hoped that the individual's abilities and achievements will be recognized by society.
The need for self-realization, which is the highest level of need, refers to the realization of one's ideal ambitions and the realization of one's maximum potential. The need to accomplish all things that are commensurate with one's abilities. It is also a need for creativity and self-worth to be reflected.
Maslow believed that high-level needs would only arise after they had been basically satisfied. The most dominant need will govern one's consciousness and behavior. After the high-level needs appear, the low-level needs remain. But the effect on behavior is weakened.
I hope that we can all work hard to discover our potential and gradually become the person we want to be.
