In the automotive industry, the quality of the terminals is directly related to the safety and reliability of the car. Therefore, rigorous leak testing of automotive terminals is crucial. Leak detection is an important process to ensure that the sealing performance of automotive terminals meets the standards, and through this process, unqualified terminals can be effectively screened out to ensure the safe operation of the electrical system of automobiles. The inspection process requires precise control of the inlet pressure, time, and evaluation of leakage values to determine whether the terminals meet the standard.

DUT: Automotive terminals

Automotive terminals are the key small parts that connect all parts of the electrical system, and their sealing performance directly affects the stability and safety of the electrical system. The material, design, and machining quality of the terminals all affect their sealing performance, so their performance needs to be verified by specialized inspection methods.

Testing requirements

During the test, the test standard is required to be 300kpa, 5 seconds for the inlet time, 16 seconds for the pressure stabilization time, 8 seconds for the test time, and 2 seconds for the deflation time, for a total of 31 seconds. With this series of actions, approximately 116 terminals can be inspected in one hour. During the inspection, if the leakage value of the terminal does not exceed 100pa, the terminal is considered to be qualified. These parameters are set to simulate the extreme conditions that the terminals may encounter during actual use, ensuring that only terminals that can truly withstand these conditions are recognized as acceptable.

Detection method

The detection method is divided into two ways: direct inspection and customized mold. Direct testing refers to the direct connection of the inspection instrument to the terminals of the car for pressure and leak testing. This method is quick and easy and is suitable for the inspection of most standard terminals. The customized mold method is to adapt to the special shape or size of the terminal, through the design of a special mold to achieve accurate detection of the terminal, although this method requires a certain amount of mold development investment in the early stage, but can improve the accuracy and repeatability of the detection.

Instrument used: HP Kaifa series air tightness detector

In this testing solution, we used the HP Pioneer Water Detector for leak detection. Known for its high accuracy, stability, and ease of operation, this detector is ideal for leak detection of automotive terminals. It enables precise control of inlet pressure, timing, and accurate measurement of leak values, ensuring the reliability and validity of the inspection process.

With the above-mentioned efficient inspection solutions, we can not only ensure the quality of automotive terminals, but also greatly improve the efficiency of inspection. The use of HP Pioneer Series Leak Testers makes the entire inspection process both accurate and efficient, ensuring that automotive terminals can meet strict quality standards. In addition, the direct inspection and custom tooling methods provide flexible inspection options for different types of terminals, further improving the adaptability and coverage of inspections. In short, the leakage detection of automobile terminals by using this scheme can effectively ensure the safety and reliability of the automotive electrical system, and is of great significance to the quality control of the automobile manufacturing industry.
