In March 2024, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Association (hereinafter referred to as the China Green Development Association and the Green Society) received a notice from the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP60) to be held in Bonn, Germany, from June 3 to 13, 2024, is now open for nominations and will be closed by March 31.

The UNFCCC subsidiary bodies include the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI). Among other things, the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice provides support to the UNFCCC, the Kyoto Protocol and the Conference of the Parties to the Paris Agreement by providing timely information and advice on relevant scientific and technical matters, including impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change, promoting the development and transfer of environmentally friendly technologies, undertaking technical work to improve guidelines for the preparation and review of Parties' greenhouse gas emission inventories, and conducting research and observational methodologies on the climate system, promoting cooperation with organizations with common goals for sustainable development, etc.; The work of the SBI Germany revolves around the work programme or progress in the implementation, monitoring or review of key provisions of the UNFCCC, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement, including in the areas of transparency, mitigation, adaptation, finance, technology and capacity-building, and is committed to promoting overall ambition on the part of all Parties.

The subsidiary bodies of the UNFCCC meet twice a year, as is customary. One of these is usually held in conjunction with the Conference of the Parties in each month (e.g., the fifty-ninth meeting of the subsidiary bodies, held in conjunction with COP28) and the other is usually held in June each year at the seat of the UNFCCC Secretariat in Bonn, Germany. The sixtieth session of the subsidiary body will build on the outcome of COP28 of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), to be held in Expo City, Dubai, UAE at the end of 2023, and prepare for COP29, to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 11 to 22 November 2024.

As an observer organization of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Green Society will actively carry out the nomination process and organize a delegation to Bonn, Germany to participate in the meeting. Experts, scholars and youth representatives who are interested in attending the conference are welcome to contact our association to actively participate in international climate governance and contribute China's wisdom and solutions.
