Core Tips:
Under the conditions of modern medicine, many diseases require lifelong treatment, and the goal of doctors is not to "annihilate" the disease, but to carry out appropriate intervention, so that patients can coexist harmoniously with the disease. Therefore, it is wise to look at the meaning of ** scientifically and rationally. The purpose of this article is to analyze the current situation of diabetes and remind patients to establish a lifelong concept.
Some time ago, I accompanied an endocrinologist to a grassroots township for free consultation, and the expert pointed to a wall advertisement on the side of the highway for me to see. There is a large line printed on the wall: "Take three courses of medicine, **diabetes, never**." The expert bluntly criticized: "These false advertisements have no limit to lies, can diabetes be **?" No. If he can ** diabetes, then this year's Nobel Prize in Medicine is his, he has solved the world's problems! "It's clear that the endocrinologist is ironically trying to mislead patients by bragging, ignoring medical facts.
Now, this kind of false advertising can probably only be seen on the wall on the side of the highway, and words such as "* elimination", "easy farewell", "completely" and "never" have long been banned in newspapers, television, radio, etc. The Advertising Law expressly prohibits the use of such exaggerated, false and categorical promotional terms. These false medical advertisements can easily lead patients into misunderstandings, and raise patients' expectations for the rate and degree of **.
At present, people's erroneous expectations of the best effect still exist, and there are many articles on the Internet that claim to "defeat diabetes", and some medical public service advertisements also have the claim of "defeating diabetes". These images, vividly, seem to inspire the confidence of patients in the fight against the disease. But it's still misleading.
Can medicine really beat diabetes once and for all? Maybe in the future, but not now. Words like "beating diabetes" can only make people mistakenly believe that modern medicine has conquered this type of disease, but this is not true. Because there is no medicine in the medical field that can ** diabetes. At present, the consensus of the medical community is that diabetes cannot be treated at present, but it can be effectively prevented or delayed.
Can we beat diabetes? Ji Linong, director of the Department of Endocrinology at Peking University People's Hospital, has a clear answer to this. He has written an article "Can Diabetes Be Beaten?" published in Health News on April 8, 2016. Mr. Ji Linong's answer has two key sentences:
One sentence is: "Through long-term research, we already know the main causes of diabetes, and we know what measures to take to control diabetes so that it does not cause damage to the human body, which can make diabetes go down." ”
Another sentence is: "Although diabetes that has occurred cannot be treated at present, there are very effective methods in medicine to control the development of diabetes, so that it does not occur or later occurs complications that are harmful to the whole body, so as to reduce the chance of diabetes disabling and dying." ”
Not only is diabetes yet to be conquered, but so are most chronic diseases. In the face of chronic non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and tumors, doctors cannot create and restore a healthy body for patients, what he can do is to help patients mobilize their own disease resistance, use drugs to control symptoms, help patients adjust their physical indicators to tend to normal, help patients carefully arrange a healthy lifestyle, and finally prolong the patient's life.
Mr. Ji Linong's practical example frankly tells us a fact: medicine has limitations, medicine's exploration of life is limited, and there are many life phenomena that we cannot explain, and doctors can only use their existing and limited knowledge to do their best to serve patients.
However, there is also some exciting news for us: according to the research progress at home and abroad, the "Chinese Expert Consensus on the Reversal of Type 2 Diabetes" issued by China in 2021 clearly stipulates some indicators of reversal, which fully shows that as long as we do a good job in the management of type 2 diabetes, especially lifestyle intervention and standardized and effective**, some type 2 diabetes can meet the standard of remission and reversal.
