In September 1949, on the occasion of the founding of New China, the ** Military Commission established the Second Division of the Public Security ** Column on the basis of the ** Garrison Regiment, with division commander Liu Huishan and political commissar Zhang Tingzhen. The ** Public Security Column was subsequently reorganized into the Public Security Guard Division, also known as the ** Guard Division, and Zhang Tingzhen continued to serve as the political commissar. Today we will tell the story of Zhang Tingzhen. Zhang Tingzhen was born in Shanxi in 1909 from a poor family.

Despite his family's poverty, Zhang Tingzhen's family did their best to provide for his education and hoped that he would be able to work in the public service in the future. However, the family could not afford the cost of continuing education, so Zhang Tingzhen had to drop out of school and stay at home. He had planned to make a living "by the West Exit", but eventually decided to continue his studies. Under the difficult circumstances of his family, Zhang Tingzhen's father could not bear to refuse his child's desire and borrowed money from everywhere to support his studies. With the help of his father, Zhang Tingzhen was able to continue his studies.

In the process of studying, Zhang Tingzhen came into contact with progressive ideas, and after the 918 Incident, he began to participate in the progressive propaganda of the idea of resisting Japan and saving the country. After graduating, he became a teacher in his hometown, and under this cover, he secretly recruited party members while propagating anti-Japanese ideas, making an important contribution to the growth of the party. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, Zhang Tingzhen went to Yan'an, and successively entered Yan'an Marxist-Leninist College and Northwest Public School to study.

In 1942, the Military Commission decided to establish a garrison regiment to protect the security of the head office. Zhang Tingzhen served as the director of the Political Department, responsible for the political work of the ** garrison regiment. Together with Wu Lie, he commanded the ** garrison regiment to carry out the task of defending the leader many times, and defeated the sabotage and assassination activities of Japanese spies and Kuomintang spies in Yan'an, and was commended and rewarded by the leaders.

After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Zhang Tingzhen followed the leader to northern Shaanxi, participated in the Yan'an Defense Battle and other battles, and successfully completed the task of defending the leader. In 1949, Zhang Tingzhen led the troops into Beiping and participated in the relevant reception work, which stabilized the local social situation and brought a stable living environment to the people.

In September of the same year, the ** Column of Public Security was established, Zhang Tingzhen served as the political commissar of the Second Division, and later the column was reorganized into the ** Guard Division, and Zhang Tingzhen served as the political commissar again, responsible for continuing to defend the important task of the leader. It is worth mentioning that Zhang Tingzhen was responsible for a series of major security work, including the security work of the first National People's Political Consultative Conference. He also participated in the follow-up security work of the founding ceremony, worked diligently, remained vigilant at all times, and successfully completed the tasks assigned by his superiors.

In 1955, Zhang Tingzhen was awarded the rank of major general and became the founding major general. During his duty as a security guard, he forgot to sleep and eat many times, and at that time, the material conditions were scarce and the nutrition could not keep up, resulting in the body gradually becoming unable to eat. Subsequently, Zhang Tingzhen suffered from severe liver disease. In order to treat his illness, in 1963, he voluntarily left his job, and soon chose to retire and live an ordinary life. In 1983, Zhang Tingzhen died of illness at the age of 74.
