On the morning of December 1, with the order of "starting water filling", the Pearl River Delta Water Resources Allocation Project, a major national water conservancy project and a landmark project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, successfully started the water conveyance tunnel filling work at the Liyuzhou water intake in Shunde, the main stream of the Xijiang River, attracting water from the Xijiang River to pour into the water conveyance tunnel for the first time, and will soon flow into the Guangzhou Gaoxinsha Reservoir, laying the foundation for the realization of the water goal. On the same day, hundreds of builders rushed from various work areas of the project to witness this important moment by the water intake of Liyuzhou Pumping Station.

The water filling task of the water conveyance tunnel mainly covers the section from the Liyuzhou Pumping Station to the Gaoxinsha Reservoir of the project, and the water filling method is carried out through the water supply pipe and high-level pool of the Liyuzhou Pumping Station in advance. The first filling is expected to last about 4 days, and after filling the water conveyance tunnels along the line, it will reach the Gaoxinsha Reservoir.

In order to ensure the smooth completion of the water filling work of the project, in the past few days, all parties involved in the construction of the Pearl River Delta water resources allocation project, including Guangdong Hydropower, have set up a special organization under the leadership of the construction unit, carefully prepared and carefully deployed the water filling work, held many water filling preparatory meetings, prepared the water filling implementation plan, and conducted a comprehensive verification of the water filling related work to ensure that the tunnel water filling and reservoir water storage conditions are met. In the whole process of water filling, the relevant parties follow the principle of step-by-step, first interval and full exhaust water filling, reasonably control the water filling rate, and check the flow channel, structure, sealing parts and other links through the joint testing of the owner, design, supervision and construction unit, and there is no leakage in the key water-filling parts, and the technical indicators meet the design standards and relevant specifications, and the water filling start work is successfully completed.

It is reported that after the completion of the follow-up water filling, Xijiang water will gradually flow into Guangzhou, Dongguan, Shenzhen and other places through the pressurized pumping station and water transmission system, and the project will be completed before the end of the year to test the water, laying a solid foundation for achieving the official water target.

The total length of the Pearl River Delta Water Resources Allocation Project is 1132 km, the design flow rate is 80 cubic meters per second, and the annual water supply is 170.8 billion cubic meters. After completion, it will divert water from the Xijiang River system to the eastern part of the Pearl River Delta, solve the problem of water shortage in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Dongguan, improve the degree of water supply guarantee, and provide emergency backup water sources for Hong Kong and other places, and gradually return the ecological water in the Dongjiang River Basin, so as to fully guarantee the water supply security of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
