1 Scenario Description
In this solution, the VFBOX gateway is used to collect data from Modbus devices, which is then converted into the Profinet protocol and sent to the platform. This conversion method only requires a simple configuration of the gateway parameters, no software programming is required, and it is easy to convert the modbus data into the PROFINET protocol. Configure the gateway parameters on the computer through the software, tell the gateway the register address of the data to be collected, and then configure the ** protocol. The following is a description of how to use it.
2 Configure the processConfigure the process.
1.Set the gateway to collect data from Modbus devices.
2.Convert the collected data into the Profinet IO protocol** for other systems.
3 Preparation
1.vfbox gateway. Supports the collection of Modbus device data, Profinet IO protocol**.
2.Computer. The IP is set to 192168.1.198, which is on the same network segment as the gateway.
3.Ethernet cable, 12V power supply.
4.Modbus slave device. In this paper, a temperature and humidity sensor was used for testing.
4. Set the gateway to collect the data of the Modbus slave device
1.The temperature and humidity sensor supports Modbus RTU communication protocol and RS485 interface. The register address for temperature data is 40001 and the register address for humidity is 40002.
2.The 485 interface of the sensor is connected to the 485 interface of the gateway. A to A, B to B.
3.Open the vfbox studio configuration software on your computer. Create a project and select a device type.
4.Recommend names according to the protocol: e.g. db1, db2....
5.Click New Project and select the Modbus RTU driver.
6.The device name is optional.
7.Increase the data to be collected.
8.Click on the menu "**Project **into the gateway.'"
9.Click View Data to view the data collected by the gateway.
5 Set up the gateway with Profinet IO protocol** data
1.Click on the menu Profinet IO. Enable the setting to yes.
2.Add the data to the input module and output module respectively. The input module is the data that the gateway sends to the PLC. output is the data that the PLC sends to the gateway.
3.After the setup is complete, click "**Project **into the gateway, then the gateway starts the Profinet IO function.
4.*When finished, click "Generate GSDML File" to generate a GSD file and import it into other devices. Click ** Project first, and then generate the GSD file.
5.When importing to the Portal, you need to set the time in the following two places to the following values, or to be larger than the values set in the figure.
6.Set the gateway IP address and gateway name on the portal. Uncheck "Automatically generate profinet device names".
7.After adding the device, you need to add the input module and output module
8.Once you have done the above, you can read the data of the modbus device on the Path.
6 Summary of the program
The protocol conversion gateway can easily realize the data exchange between two protocol devices, which is a popular scheme at present. It does not require understanding of protocol details and does not require R&D, so it saves a lot of time and labor costs in the project implementation process. This is a very practical solution for scenarios where different protocol devices need to be connected together.
The gateway products are all industrial-grade quality, which is in line with the scenarios of industrial applications. These gateways are characterized by high reliability, high stability, and high security, which can meet the needs of various industrial environments. In addition, the gateway is easy to maintain and operate, which can greatly reduce maintenance costs.
When using a protocol conversion gateway, the connection between devices and systems can be completed quickly with simple parameter configuration. This configuration process is very simple, and you only need to set it up accordingly according to the actual situation. At the same time, the protocol conversion gateway can also support a variety of different protocols, which can meet the connection needs of different devices and systems.
In general, the use of protocol conversion gateways can greatly simplify the data exchange process between different protocol devices and improve the reliability and stability of data transmission. At the same time, it can also reduce the time cost and labor cost of the project implementation process, and improve the efficiency and quality of the project. Therefore, protocol conversion gateways are a very practical solution in industrial applications.
