The Spratly Islands have always been Chinese territory.

In 1956, South Vietnam raised its flag in the Spratly Islands and claimed sovereignty.

In the years that followed, South Vietnam repeatedly invaded a number of islands and reefs in China's Nansha and destroyed the original Chinese sovereignty monuments and buildings on the islands.

On March 13, 1988, at the request of UNESCO, the Chinese Navy was ordered to organize ships and personnel to conduct inspections on Chigua Reef and other islands and reefs in the Nansha Islands in order to establish an oceanographic observatory.

On the 14th, the Vietnamese Navy tried to force its way into the Spratly Islands and sent the Vietnamese ship 604 to land on the beach. However, the squadron did not sit idly by, but took decisive action to protect China's territorial and maritime rights and interests.

After the Vietnamese army fired the first shot, the Chinese people on the reef were forced to defend themselves and fight back, and a fierce battle began. They quickly retreated according to the established plan in order to allow the anti-aircraft machine-gun fire support of the Chinese Navy to work better.

In the battle, the Chinese people showed a tenacious fighting spirit and excellent tactical literacy. While counterattacking, they quickly retreated, so that the anti-aircraft machine guns on the Vietnamese 604 ship could not effectively target the Chinese 502 ship.

In the end, the machine guns and artillery on the medium ** ship successfully suppressed the fire of the Vietnamese army, and the Vietnamese 604 ship was sunk.

The result of the Battle of Nansha was the victory of China, and the Vietnamese army was repulsed and surrendered was announced. This battle was a major victory for the Chinese Navy in defending national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and also a brilliant victory for the Chinese People's Liberation Army in foreign operations. It not only defended China's territorial and maritime rights and interests, but also demonstrated the firm determination and strong combat effectiveness of the squadron.
