Editor's note:
In 2014, when the "post-90s" had just stepped into society, LIZHI News found 10 "post-90s" with different backgrounds, experiences, occupations, and regions, and began to copy their lives and the times they lived in for 10 years.
After years of follow-up, this set of reports has witnessed an important turning point in the lives of this group of young people, and also recorded the profound imprint of the times on the lives of individuals.
This year is the last year of the series, let's turn over the memories of them and the times together.
When Zhou Ya was contacted, he was enjoying a rare "slow life" in the past 10 years. In the fourth year of the domestic head recruitment** to do content, it is expected that Zhou Ya "happy to mention" the resignation "gift package". The layoff was not sudden for Zhou Ya, "After the company's personnel adjustment in the middle of the year, almost the entire department I worked in was 'optimized'. I'm actually staying up, and I've been messing around for half a year, and I should have left in the middle of the year."
Half a year ago, when Zhou Yazheng was talking to his colleagues about how to modify the new **, his colleague's resignation approval suddenly popped up on his mobile phone, and when he looked up, he found that the other party had been called to the conference room by the personnel department to talk. "When I saw this colleague again, he had already packed his things and was ready to leave," Zhou Ya calmly recalled.
The rapid unemployment of a colleague is a signal. In January 2024, after half a year without a team and being marginalized, Zhou Ya also lost her job. However, Zhou Ya was not very sad about this, and the "n+1" economic compensation given by the company made him have a lot of money on hand for the time being. The most important thing is that after so many busy years, he finally has time to rest.
Zhou Ya and his wife took a photo with the two dogs at home**.
He took advantage of this "window period" to go to the hospital to improve the "occupational diseases" such as cervical spine and low back pain that had fallen over the years, and planned to consider job hunting after the year. "I may continue to do content in the company, or I may accept a friend's 'olive branch' to return to **" For the future job search goals, Zhou Ya does not have a particularly clear plan.
In addition to unemployment, there are not many surprises in Zhou Ya's life in 2023. Under the "prepayment tide", he handed over to the bank every 100,000 yuan he saved, and no longer made any attempts at investment and financial management, enjoying "stable happiness". Even the weight is as stable as ever. Sitting in the office for a long time has led to a decrease in static consumption, coupled with his lack of diet control, Zhou Ya's weight has been difficult to drop, and he feels that he has entered a "middle-aged embarrassment". This year, Zhou Ya started a new sport – what he used to think was a very challenging "marathon", running four times. "Did you think it was an ordinary person to be able to run 40 kilometers? Now that I'm running down, I feel like that's it, I can go a little faster. Zhou Ya felt that the pressure would disappear a lot after exercise, and his whole mental state would be better.
Running also adds a new experience. In April, in order to have a deeper understanding of the employment status of people with disabilities, and out of her love for sports, Zhou Ya joined a running team led by blind people. He wakes up early two days a week to become a "chaperone" and runs with a blind man on a rope. During the accompanying run, Zhou Ya and the other party maintain the same frequency, and he needs to remind the other party to turn left and right, maintain balance, and provide the other party with a sense of security. This run is more than half a year, and I didn't quit until the end of the work. Zhou Ya was able to observe the real life conditions of the blind community up close, and thus met a group of "blind friends". He found that this particular group of "runners" was funny, cheerful, and sensitive, except that they were not as "miserable" as he had imagined in the past. "They also like to eat, drink, and take pictures. Blind people also like to take pictures. ”

Approaching the end of the year, Zhou Ya brought his parents from his hometown to Beijing for the New Year. He said that this year's "reverse Spring Festival" will be easier. As a native of Shandong, when asked whether he still adheres to Dink's concept of fertility and whether his parents will induce childbearing, Zhou Ya frankly admitted that the choice is in the hands of himself and his wife, and he will "spend money to gag his parents' mouths". Last year, Zhou Ya bought a car for her parents, "At first, the old couple was unwilling, but now they will turn around when they have nothing to do."
Zhou Ya picked up his parents from Shandong to Beijing for the New Year, and the things his parents brought filled the entire elevator.
Ten years back
Unlike other interviewees, Zhou Ya is not only the target of LIZHI News' "10 Years of the Post-90s" series, but also one of the original planners of the project.
In 2014, Zhou Ya, who graduated from the Department of Journalism of Nankai University, came to Jiangsu Radio and Television, and soon quit his stable job in a state-owned enterprise and resolutely picked up his luggage and went north. In Beijing, a city that carries the dreams of countless people, he is like all the "North Drifters" who make a living. From the operation of a start-up company, an investigative reporter for news and information apps to the public relations of a leading recruitment company, Zhou Ya has completed the transformation from a journalist to an Internet person, and finally chose to devote himself to the embrace of the Internet at the fork of several career changes.
2023 is the tenth year of his graduation from college. If the journey of life is compared to a turbulent river, except for the idea of giving birth to the next generation, Zhou Ya has basically completed the entire process of finding a job and starting a business, buying a house and settling down, getting married and settling down, and basically realizing the world's expectation of a man "standing at thirty".
At the end of the decade, when we asked him to review his gains and changes in the past ten years, he deeply felt that his life was so plain and step-by-step, "there are no particularly touching changes, just normal step by step". When talking about his personal perception of the outside world in the past ten years, as a companion of the times, Zhou Ya feels that "the most obvious thing is to witness the earth-shaking changes in the general environment in the past ten years."
The recent experience of being unemployed and working in a recruitment company has given Zhou Ya a deep understanding of today's employment situation. He recalls that when he just graduated in 2013, it was the norm for his classmates to hold two or three offers in their hands, "At that time, my peers were reluctant to choose a life that was too stable, and everyone felt that their future had infinite possibilities." In 2015, many people joined the wave of national entrepreneurship, and many of the current Internet companies also began to develop and grow at that time. ”
Including Zhou Ya himself, he also seized some opportunities of the times. He felt that his "gears of fate" began to turn in 2015, first went to 360 and Beijing TV to cooperate with "Beijing Time" as an investigative reporter, and then entered an Internet company, and also experienced a wave of income **. Actually, I was quite lucky, I caught up and didn't miss anything. Zhou Ya recalled. Over the past decade, the job market has changed a lot, and the system has become the first choice for most people. Zhou Ya remembered that when he left his job not long ago, the previous leader teased him: "Let's take the civil service exam again, while the age has not yet passed." ”
Of course, there will always be some regrets in life. When we asked if there were any moments in the past ten years when I felt that "it would have been better if I had chosen this way", Zhou Ya replied, "Why didn't I buy a house in 2014, I almost bought the highest point of the house price; Why didn't I enter the start-up stage of the Internet company earlier, maybe I would have been able to achieve financial freedom through ** realization. ”
However, on the whole, Zhou Ya feels that she is still relatively lucky, after all, there is no perfect life. After 10 years, Zhou Ya feels as if she has gradually lost the momentum of youth. For the future, he hopes to live a more peaceful life and no longer run around the hustle and bustle of the big city. He and his wife are both people with low materialistic desires, and they plan to settle down together in Yunnan or a small city around the age of 60 to live a quiet life.
