I swiped a book before going to bed last night, it was Kerouac's "On the Road", this ** I haven't read it before, but I've heard a little bit about it, so I clicked on this book and started reading, but this article is not a book review, because I haven't finished reading it yet, I just want to write about my thoughts about the American sixties and seventies and the contemporary mainland life atmosphere and cultural trends.
From Hemingway, who sounded the death knell, to Kerouac, from Little Richard to Jimi Hendirx to Bob Dylan, there is no doubt that young people are the trendsetters who lead the trend of world culture, whether it is the Great Depression or the days of economic take-off, there will always be people who come out to sing ballads, there will always be people who come out to do rock 'n' roll, no matter whether life is good or bad, those people will always be lost and will never find themselves.
That's right, there are me among those people, but I don't know if there is you, so this ** particularly interests me, I can't stop reading, I'm definitely not going to sleep tonight, I have to finish reading this book first.
I want to say that I haven't been abroad, and I haven't been to New York City, Chicago, Newark, Woodstock, and Silicon Valley in the Bay Area, which I've seen in countless American dramas, but I've never been there. At the same time, in order to learn English, I memorized all the "i h**e a dream" and was deeply inspired by Martin Luther King. However, my English level is still not very good, and the front page of Wall Street** is still not fully understood, of course, without looking up the dictionary. The second is, I think Wall Street is too hard to read, really, it's still easy to read.
I was born in a peaceful era, I didn't feel the Great Depression, the economic crisis, and the Cold War in the thirties, and many years ago, I just liked Bob Dylan's songs, but I couldn't fully understand what the lyrics meant, because I couldn't empathize with them, because our experiences were so different.
But in the past few years, I have suddenly become a little more cheerful, although we have experienced different times, but we are all so depressed, we need to be liberated, most of these repressions come from culture, such as incompetent parents who graduated from junior high school, they don't understand anything, they only know that they force you to study for 25 hours a day, you discuss with him that you can't find a way to learn, they don't understand at all, they don't care, they only seem to know that as long as they spend all their time and force themselves to death, they can get the ideals and hopes of the future.
So since the '80s, oh no, since the imperial examinations, our teenage years have been painful, especially in modern times, more and more anxiety has emerged. Although there is not a lost generation like Hemingway, nor the decadent generation of Kerouac, we at least have a generation that lies flat.
I'm not entirely sure what makes The Beat Generation different from The Lie Down Generation, but maybe some of them mean the same thing. For example, we are lying flat now, because life is hopeless, because life is too boring and too tormenting, the track of social promotion is becoming more and more single, and the performance is becoming more and more heavy, and at the same time, it is accompanied by the performance society that evolves from the company culture. Let everyone struggle with KPIs, scores, monthly salary, the number of words in the child, the number of countries the child has been to, the piano level of the child.
Digital things may not be completely suitable for human society, for example, many things cannot be expressed in numbers, and the emergence of digital society is accompanied by the integration of high technology into life. For example, if you yearn to get off work, after the advent of office software, you will never be able to leave work, so as your work becomes more and more "important" (because you can't get off work), you also become more and more "feel that life is meaningless".
From my point of view, if I work ten hours a day, I can get paid 10,000 yuan a month, I will choose, work five hours a day, and get half of the salary every month, but in a performance society, this is impossible.
Secondly, if I could work 18 hours a day to get a good life, I might do it, but in fact, working 18 hours a day doesn't seem to get a good life, and it's far from it, so I can only dry up my passion for life, so I may choose to do nothing. But the environment is not that simple. In a performance society, there are only two situations, the first is exhaustion and the second is starvation, this is my opinion.
Kerouac was undoubtedly lucky, his mother gave him pocket money, which made him a writer for Ma Bao Nan, but he was still confused, lost, and all the things that seemed beautiful were not necessarily needed by the individual. You pursue a lot of things, and it may just be a prejudice.
At the end of the day, I didn't know what I was trying to say, so I wrote a failed proposal today. But I can at least know that my previous lifestyle was very much like Kerouac, and I would write more things, sing more songs, express myself, and make my life go from skinny to full. But the people around me still think I'm a freak like a fool.
But none of this matters anymore, the important thing is to be able to continue living on the way to find yourself. As long as I can continue to live, then I can find myself.
Goodbye Jack, goodbye my Kerouac.
