Science fiction writers are children at heart, because they are always thinking about "unrealistic" ideas, always "whimsical".

In the process of a person's growth, there must be a period of time accompanied by science fiction, so that he will not be bored, nor will he be lonely, and moreover, he can have one more world than others, and observe life with one more pair of eyes than others, which is both interesting and useful.

Science Fiction for Children, Preface II).
I'm a science fiction writerScience fiction writers are children at heart, because they are always thinking about "unrealistic" ideas, always "whimsical". When I first watched science fiction, I was a child, and I was still in elementary school. Science fiction gave me a sense of magic, opened the door to my imagination, and made me see that there was another incredible world besides the books in class. It's an experience that I keep to this day, and it keeps me curious and fresh about everything, which helps me live more comfortably.
The science fiction I wrote**, including the award-winning works, a large part of them are children's science fiction, and I can cite "Red Ocean", "Mars Shines on America", "Fear of Seeing", "Dark Room", "Ancient Ship in the Desert", "Menarche Under the Umbra Cone", etc., the protagonists are all children. I think,In the process of a person's growth, there must be a period of time accompanied by science fiction, so that he will not be bored, nor will he be lonely, and moreover, he can have one more world than others, and observe life with one more pair of eyes than others, which is both interesting and useful.

I have also heard that in the United States, many big entrepreneurs, big scientists, and big inventors have been attracted to science fiction since they were children, so they have the idea of creating a new world, and they are determined to turn the whimsical ideas described in science fiction into reality. That's one reason why in the West, there are so many inventions. Maybe it's science fiction, which opens their horizons and stimulates the development of their brains from an early age. Now, this is happening in China as well, and the heads of some of the big Internet companies are science fiction fans. In addition, science fiction has also been included in China's primary and secondary school textbooks and has entered the examination questions of primary and secondary schools.

2018 marks the bicentenary of Frankenstein, the world's first sci-fi book. Mr. Kitajima wanted to compile a science fiction book for children, and invited Liu Cixin and I to be responsible for the selection. We look for these works according to a number of principles.
Editor's note. Frankenstein, published in 1818, was born in Switzerland by Mary Shelley, the wife of the famous poet Shelley. They were on vacation with their friends on the lakeside in Geneva, Switzerland, because the weather was very cold, they were stuck in a villa with nothing to do, and they were bored by the competition and writing. Mary Shelley wrote this **, which became the originator of modern science fiction. At the end of 2017, the event was already being commemorated around the world.
First of all, they are all landmark in the history of science fiction, and have been regarded as classics by many, and they have been recited over and over again, from which endless inspiration can be derived, and new wisdom can be born.
Secondly, it not only includes Chinese writing, but also foreign masters, so that readers can see how science fiction in the East and the West has laid out our common imagination feast in different paths and directions.
Thirdly, we did not deliberately look for those so-called "suitable for children", because in our experience, the word science fiction, itself is equivalent to youth and dreams, and represents the childhood that the human species is currently experiencing. By accepting it, we affirm ourselves and build confidence in the present and the future.
