In the lens of Singapore-based photographer Nguan, there is no lack of beauty in the city, but a lack of discovery, and he makes the city feel like a fairy tale.
Nguan is known for capturing the city and its people in pure, pink colors, and he renders everyday cityscapes as beautiful as a fairy tale.
In 2010 he published his first photo album, Shibuya, in 2013 he published a book, How Loneliness Goes, and in 2017, Singapore was named one of the top 10 best photography books of the year by The New York Times.
He uses dreamlike tones to record the life of the small people in the market, and the photographic works of NGUAN, the tone is harmonious and the composition is simple, and the world seems to be covered with a layer of dreamlike candy filter, although the pink colors capture only the daily life of the small people in the market.
He wants to show the different faces of Singapore through photography, with food vendors in corridors and food courts in different neighborhoods and public housing areas, as well as grocery stores around the corner, dirty corners of garbage...and other things that everyone is accustomed to. These everyday moments seem warm and dreamy, but there is a faint sense of alienation and indifference in the city, which is inseparable from Nguan's experience, which has made Nguan feel that he no longer belongs here, so he picked up his camera and re-understood the city and himself in the way of photography.
