The ship, named "COSCO SHIPPING Green Water 02", is a pure electric container ship with a design load of 700 TEU. The ship is the "sister ship" of COSCO SHIPPING Green Water 01, which is independently developed, designed and manufactured by Yangzhou COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., with independent intellectual property rights.

The 10,000-ton river-sea direct pure electric container ship "COSCO SHIPPING Green Water 02", its sister ship "COSCO SHIPPING Green Water 01" has started its maiden voyage in January 2024, and is currently running back and forth on the "Nanjing Port - Yangshan Port" route, with a single ship operating on a weekly basis.
The total length of the ship is 1198 meters, 23 wide6 meters, about the size of 10 standard basketball courts. Electrically driven, the ship is powered by 36 marine containerized batteries, with a propulsion power of 1,800 kW (2,900 kW).With a battery capacity of up to 57,600kWh, it is currently the world's largest battery capacity for a pure electric vessel. If a battery electric vehicle with a 60kWh battery pack is used as a standard, the ship's battery capacity is almost equivalent to the power of 960 electric vehicles.
Electrification of ships is the future
Due to the large capacity of the battery on board, it will take a long time to fully charge the battery, and the operational efficiency of the carrier will be affected, so it is obviously not practical to dock the ship to recharge for a long time.
