For people with depression, poor thinking patterns, or cognitive impairment, are the main causes of depression. The following distorted ways of thinking are all important factors that lead to low mood, low respect, and low sense of worth.

1.Emotional reasoning

This way of thinking is to take emotions as the basis of facts. Every time I feel down, there is almost emotional reasoning at work. If it seems to you that the truth is so bad, then it must be the case, and you don't even think to question whether the assumptions that cause you to feel this way are correct.

This reasoning is misleading because your feelings reflect only your thoughts and beliefs, and if they are distorted, then your emotions lose their correctness.

A common consequence of emotional reasoning is procrastination. I haven't written my homework during the winter vacation because you tell yourself: I'm annoyed when I think about these homework, so it's better not to do it and talk about it later.

But in fact, homework is not as difficult as you think, and you have been deceiving yourself because you are used to letting negative feelings guide your behavior.

2.Self-judgment

You always unconsciously make some good and bad, good and bad evaluations of yourself, others and things, rather than simply describing, accepting and understanding. This way of thinking is mainly manifested in the fact that you often judge things arbitrarily and always feel that they are not perfect.

When we compare ourselves to others or other things, it is often our self-confidence and self-esteem that hurts the most.

You know, the world is not perfect, and neither can any of us be perfect. But people with such a mindset have been demanding perfection and self-pressuring, which will become an important factor leading to depression.

3.Jump to conclusions

In the absence of empirical investigation, negative conclusions are quickly and arbitrarily drawn. There are two ways of thinking like this: mind reading and prophetic error.

What is mind reading? To put it simply, it is subjective assumptions, speculating about other people's thoughts, and negativeizing them. This pattern of self-seeking behavior can lead to self-fulfilling prophecies and disharmony in relationships.

Prophetic mistakes are a bit like unpredictable prophets, and yours must be the content of your misfortune, not a moment of good fortune. This mindset makes you think that something bad is going to happen and makes you believe it.

4.The law of should

Whether to yourself or to others, you will try to push yourself with the "should" sentence or ask others. You always say to yourself: I should do this, I have to do that. But this way of thinking will only make you feel stressed and resentful. And most of the time, you will become depressed and discouraged.

Because, when your own actual performance is lower than expected, you use "should" or "shouldn't" to make yourself feel ashamed and guilty, and hate yourself even more.

And when you impose your "law of should" on others, you will feel even more frustrated, because this kind of thinking will only make you lose control, irritated and resentful. If someone else's moral behavior falls short of your expectations, you will see yourself as the embodiment of justice, and then you will become resentful.

At this point, you either lower your expectations, or you will perpetuate your mood by dwelling on human behavior that doesn't meet your expectations.

This way of thinking will limit you to your own framework and set standards, and it will make you live harder and harder.
