With the official release of Huawei Pocket 2, there has been more discussion about folding screens in the industry. There are basically two points of view, one is that folding screen mobile phones are very niche and how the future development is unclear, and the other is that the current folding screen may be the basic form of future mobile phones.

In the midst of the discussion, TrendForce released a new report on foldable phones, which analyzes the global foldable phone market in 2023 and summarizes the market performance in 2024. According to the report, in the past 2023, the overall global shipment of folding screen mobile phones will be about 15.9 million units, a year-on-year increase of 25%. It accounts for 14%, selling an average of 100 smartphones, of which only 14 are folding screens.

PS: Samsung's folding screen mobile phones are almost monopolized worldwide, because Samsung ranks first with a market share of 664%, that is, all other folding screen phones together are not Samsung's opponents.

However, the report also shows that the global share of Samsung's folding screen mobile phones has decreased by 17 percentage points year-on-year in 2022, mainly due to the impact of domestic folding screens, and this trend continues, and the report expects the share of Samsung's folding screen to drop to 60 in 20244%。In second place in 2023 is Huawei, with a market share of 119%, and Huawei's share in the folding screen field may increase to about 20% in 2024, mainly due to Huawei's very strong performance in the Chinese market. In third place in 2023 is Xiaomi with a market share of 53%, and Xiaomi is expected to grow to 5 in 20244%。I really didn't expect that in the world, Xiaomi's folding screen could rank third.

According to the report, global folding screen mobile phone shipments are expected to increase to 17.7 million units in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 11%, and by 2025, it may be able to account for 2% of the overall smartphone share in the world. It seems that the folding screen will not be able to be ordinary in a large area for a while, and the report analysis believes that the main reason is that the price of the folding screen is too high, and the durability of these two factors hinder the popularity of the folding screen.
