Recently, the "Future of Drama - Boutique Micro-short Drama Cooperation Seminar" was held in Hangzhou. At the meeting, Douyin announced that it would join hands with ** institutions, and in the next year, Douyin will take a three-pronged approach from three aspects: resource support, product operation upgrading, and content governance, to form a 1+1+1 micro-short drama boutique support system to help high-quality content flourish. The first batch of co-created high-quality micro-short dramas will be launched in March 2024.
At the seminar, Lang Fengwei, deputy editor-in-chief of Douyin Group and general manager of cooperation, introduced two cooperation models with ** institutions: joint production and joint operation. For key projects, Douyin will launch special funds for co-investment and give a series of resource support. For micro-short dramas independently produced by radio and television institutions and media integration institutions, Douyin will provide service support for the whole process of topic selection, script, production, operation, and monetization.
At the same time, Lang Fengwei said that Douyin will focus on the six directions of "To Dreams, To Youth, To Warmth, To Revitalization, To National Style, and To Imagination", hoping to jointly create more high-quality and pyrotechnic micro-short drama works under these themes.
It is understood that at present, most of the short dramas are between 1 minute and 10 minutes long. The production cost of a short drama is generally between 100,000 and 500,000, ranging from 20 to 100 episodes. Just recently, the number of short drama platforms Hippo Theater and Douyin's Tomato Short Drama APP** frequently appeared in the top 10 list of iOS. In addition to them, there are currently as many as twenty or thirty skit apps in Apple's Chinese app store alone.
Industry insiders said that the entry of ** institutions and professional film and television production companies will help stimulate the vitality of the micro-short drama creation ecology and promote the healthy development of the industry.
It is reported that since the beginning of this year, Douyin has made high-quality micro-short drama attempts in the three directions of traditional culture, rural revitalization, and youth struggle, and a number of high-quality micro-short drama works such as "Escape from the British Museum", "Twenty-Nine" and "I Am a Famous Actor" have emerged.
